Dinner and a film is a perfectly nice evening. It’s also the same evening you had last time, and the time before that. Somewhere around the third date — or the three-hundredth — most couples in Cornwall run into the same question: what else is there?
Here’s a suggestion: get locked in a room together.
Why an escape room makes a great date
An hour in one of our rooms tells you more about each other than a month of dinners. You’ll find out who stays calm when the clock’s running down, who refuses to ask for a hint out of pure stubbornness, and who quietly solves the hardest puzzle in the room and then mentions it approximately forever.
Mostly, though, it’s just fun in a way that’s hard to find as an adult. You’re playing — properly playing — and you leave buzzing rather than sleepy. The drive home is all “how did you SEE that?” instead of silence and headlights.
Two-player games work brilliantly in all three of our rooms. Some couples say it’s the best test of a relationship this side of assembling flat-pack furniture. We say it’s cheaper than counselling.
Which room for date night?
- The Smoke House Curse — candlelit-level atmosphere, a story to get lost in, and the closest thing to starring in your own mystery film. The date night classic.
- Pasty Escape — lighter, funnier, and very Cornish. Pick this one if your idea of romance includes laughing at each other.
- Puzzle Escape 2.0 — the gentle first-timer option, ideal if one of you is humouring the other. (You’ll both be hooked by minute ten. We’ve watched it happen.)
The practical bit
Games last 60 minutes and a two-player booking is £60. Book a slot online, arrive a couple of minutes early, and build the rest of the evening around it — an early game before dinner works especially well, because it hands you an hour of conversation to take to the table.
For food afterwards: Real Pizza is under a minute’s walk from our door, Sultanz does very well-rated Indian a few minutes away, and The Cornish Oven covers the pasty-and-coffee end of the spectrum. Book the table for about ninety minutes after your game starts and the timing works itself out.

Date night as a gift
Anniversaries, Valentine’s, or a “we never do anything any more” intervention: a gift voucher for two covers the whole game and lets them pick the date. It’s a better present than flowers, and it lasts longer than chocolates.
